The Pink Armoire

June 28, 2014

Thanks to a friend of mine, I was able to participate in a fashion shoot for The Pink Armoire. This was the first time I participated in such a photographic endeavor and I learned a lot in the span of just a few hours.

Prior to this, my experience of taking photos of people were limited to social outtings and weddings, so I was very eager to broaden my horizons and do something in a more 'professional' setting.

I don't know much about women's fashion, but I know what I want to see when I'm shopping for clothes. I want to know what it looks like from multiple angles, and how does it look when its moving around, so that is what I wanted to capture during the shoot. I had the models move around a lot. I felt that the the slightest gesture would completely change how the clothing reacted. A swoosh of a dress here, or a raise of a hand there, I felt, added 'depth' to the pictures and in turn, made for some unique images. I particularly liked how bracelets and necklaces responded to gravity.

While not all my attempts at having the girls 'move around' where succesful, I did learn quickly what was and what wasn't going to work. More of a 'trial and error' kind of shoot, but better to have tried and failed then to have never tried at all right?

All three ladies (and of course the proprietor) were great and really enjoyed being in front of the camera. I’m looking forward to working with them again, as well as any future ‘fashion-shoots’ that may come along.

What did I learn:

* Relax - Have fun. You have a camera and you like taking pictures. Just enjoy it. If people see you having fun taking their picture, they will have fun having their picture taken.

* Lighting - Everyone knows that lighting is important, but you don’t realize HOW important it is until you see what good lighting can do for your subject. Invest in (better) lighting equipment.
